Being a lifeguard at Indigo Park Pool means more than watching the water. Lifeguards are trusted leaders on deck. You are expected to enforce rules consistently, maintain appropriate boundaries with guests, and model respectful behavior at all times.
Pay
First-year lifeguards start at $14 per hour. Lifeguards who return for additional seasons receive pay increases each season
Paid every two weeks via direct deposit
Schedule & Hours
Season: Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day
Pool Schedule:
Open Friday through Sunday starting Memorial Day weekend
Open seven days a week beginning the second week of June
Pool hours are 12 pm to 8 pm
Weekly Commitment:
Average 12–16 hours per week
More hours may be available for guards who are reliable, meet expectations, and maintain consistent availability.
Shifts:
Typically 4 hours
Shifts are scheduled based on stated availability and are considered a commitment once assigned.

Additional Shifts May Include:
Occasional late nights for swim meets or special events
Occasional weekend mornings for private parties
Staffing:
Many weekday shifts are staffed by a single lifeguard
Some weekends will have two lifeguards, depending on swimmer volume
This position can be combined with other jobs or activities as long as the weekly commitment is met. Applicants should be able to commit to the entire summer season from Memorial Day through at least Labor Day.
Responsibilities
Actively supervise swimmers and enforce pool rules
Maintain a professional and respectful presence on deck
Open and close the pool during scheduled shifts
Perform hourly headcounts and safety checks
Complete light cleaning and general upkeep tasks
Follow all procedures outlined in the updated Lifeguard Manual
Take direction from the Lifeguard Manager and Board of Directors
Serve as a positive role model, especially for younger swimmers
Because we are a small, community-run pool, lifeguards often work independently during weekday shifts with no other staff on site. This role requires maturity, reliability, and good judgment.
Expectations & Professionalism
Lifeguards are expected to:
Follow instructions and procedures consistently
Accept feedback and coaching, even if they have worked here before
Maintain appropriate boundaries with guests, especially children
Take responsibility for mistakes and correct them
Prioritize safety over socializing
This can be a first job. Prior work experience is not required. What matters most is a willingness to learn, follow rules, and take the role seriously.
Certifications
Must be at least 15 years old
Must hold current Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR certification
If not yet certified, the pool may cover the cost of certification if you commit by a specified date
Support & Training
Clear expectations outlined in an updated Lifeguard Manual
Ongoing support from the Lifeguard Manager
Oversight and guidance from the Board of Directors
Clear protocols for incidents, safety concerns, and decision-making
You will never be expected to handle unsafe situations without support.
